Calling All Authors

Are you a published author? Do you like to play games? Do you want to be a Featured Author at Reading Until Dawn Con 2017? If you answered yes to any of those questions, then we want you! Yes, you!

We are looking for Featured Authors to come play games with readers at #RUDC17. It does not matter if you are traditionally published, or indie, if you’ve published a dozen novels or just one. It doesn’t matter what genre you write either.*

*Please note if you write Childrens/Middle Grade/Young Adult: RUDC is for adults 18 years and older. You are more than welcome to join us, but your readers will probably not be in attendance.

Ready to become a Featured Author? Here are the details you need to know:

Like the first con, RUDC17 is all about breaking down the barriers between authors and their readers. June 3rd will be a day of games and activities. There will be no panels, discussions, or boring business talk. Because here at RUDC, we like to dance to the beat of our own tambourine, even our signing will be a little different. Our Books and Booze Signing is for attendees only and will consist of more casually formatted round-table hangout with authors and readers…and booze (go figure). (I mean, who doesn’t want a beer or two while signing books?) And, of course for our night owls, there will be pillow forts and slumber party games going on into the night.

RUDC is framed around creating an intimate environment between authors and readers, so our goal is to stay small with a target 3:1 reader to author ratio. That way, every reader has ample time and opportunity to meet and actually interact with each author.

Here’s what you can look forward to: Featured Authors will have their bios, pictures, and a purchase link to one of their books listed on the RUDC website with postings going up as soon as authors have registered. All of the authors names will be used in promotion for RUDC17. You will be team leaders during the games, and have the opportunity to create games based off of your books/worlds. Only featured authors will have guaranteed seats at the signing.

As a budding new con, word of mouth is still the best and most effective way to spread the word about the event. Your readers want to hear from you and if you’re excited about something, they’ll be excited about something. So let’s start a buzz! In order to ensure our success hitting our target readership, we will need your help and commitment. By signing on to attend RUDC17 as a Featured Author you are agreeing to participate in a minimum of three games as well as post about RUDC a minimum of twice monthly on your website and/or social media. Pre-made graphics and statuses will be available and you are of course welcome to share our posts (no need to create lots of extra work for yourself).

Registration for Featured Authors is $100. There will be no other mandatory fees for Featured Authors; however, there will be ample opportunities for sponsorships.

If you want to join the fun register here! Then email me at readinguntildawncon(at)gmail(dot)com with your author photo, your bio, any website and social media links, and the buy link for the one book you’ve selected to be listed under your name. And then be sure to tell your fans, friends, and family members (though, it doesn’t have to be in that order) that you’re a Featured Author at RUDC17 and they should come play games with you.

Big News

It has been one year since the first Reading Until Dawn Con. And while I had planned on doing a second con in 2016, health issues kept me from working. But I have good news. Reading Until Dawn Con is coming back, and sooner than you think. I am very happy to announce RUDC2017!

It will be a one day only, mini con on Saturday June 3rd, 2017. A day full of games, a special Books and Booze Signing – open for attendees only, and of course, building pillow forts and having a slumber party at night.

The list of featured authors will be released soon, but it will have a strong mix of genres.

Mark your calendars for June 3, 2017, Denver, Colorado. Join us for a day with no adulting and embracing your inner fangirl.

Casey’s Thank You Speech

On Saturday afternoon, I gave a speech during lunch because there are so, so many people I need to thank for helping me with my first ever Reading Until Dawn Con.  For those of you who missed the speech, or want to read through it again, here is my Thank You Speech.

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m Casey, the crazy brains behind Reading Until Dawn Con. AKA the Mother Fucking Boss!

Before this con, the biggest party I ever put together was my 17th birthday party, when six of my friends came over to my house.

Obviously, this was a huge venture for me and I have so, so many people I need to thank.

First, I want to thank Darynda Jones for loving and adoring me so much that she agreed to be the emcee and stuck with me as I learned the ropes.

To all of my Featured Authors for taking a chance on a brand new con – thank you.

My Featured Bloggers did a phenomenal job in helping promote the con.

My entire family – both biological and adopted. Thank you for dealing with me and supporting me unconditionally.

My incredible friend Janet, who heard about the con and immediately offered to help, even though she doesn’t read as much as I do.

Cynthia St. Aubin who has made me cry happy tears at least a dozen times with her brilliance, creativity, and kindness. And that’s not counting the time that she immortalized me in her novella as a famous rockstar.

Roselynn Cannes, is the most amazing friend I could ever ask for. She has talked me off the ledge countless times. And when I said, “I need to channel my inner Leslie Knope,” she looked at me and said, “No! Channel your inner Casey Harris-Parks. She’s more awesome than Leslie Knope. She’s got this!”

Jackie Morgan, who has been my boss at Literary Escapism for the past five years, and when she heard about my venture, started asking how she could help. And was then inspired to create her own con! Rust City Book Con, next August in Detroit, Michigan. It’s going to be amazing! You should go.

I owe so, so much to Jennifer Morris, director of Coastal Magic Con. She was one of the first people I started talking to about Reading Until Dawn Con, and over the past year, I’ve probably asked her five million questions. No, no. Probably closer to five billion questions.

All of you should check out her annual Coastal Magic Con next February in Daytona Beach, Florida. It’s going to be freaking awesome. Like it always is.

And last, I want to thank each and every one of you sitting here today. Yes, you. You heard about Reading Until Dawn Con and decided it sounded awesome enough that you took the time out of your schedule to come here and party with us. And by doing so, you helped my dream become a reality. I cannot thank you enough.

Thank you all so much for such an incredible weekend!

P.S. Thank to everyone who donated to our Charity Raffle. We raised $200 for the Wild Animal Sanctuary!

Everyone Deserves a Second Chance

Registration officially closed last Friday, on the 25th of September. However, because some people missed the deadline, and everyone deserves a second chance, I have officially re-opened registration! *throws confetti*

There are ONLY 100 spots in this new registration and once they’re gone registration will be closed. (No third chances. Sorry guys.) So if you’re thinking about coming, you better register fast. There will be no registration at the door. You don’t want to miss out on this awesome weekend of books, games, and pillow forts!

D&D Campaign Sessions

Ronden Marr.LogoOne of the games being hosted will be a Dungeons & Dragons session(s) set in the Ronden Marr Campaign Setting.

Two hundred years ago, the surface world was burned away in an event known as The Calamity. Several races found refuge in the dwarven kingdom of Mornfaruhm. Things have not gone well for the survivors- riots, starvation, cannibalism, genocide, and more. Alliances have shifted, and new factions rise and fall.

Dwarves, goblins, humans, and others must put aside their animosity to survive and keep the last remaining civilization from imploding.

To ensure the session starts quickly, the GM would like to contact participants ahead of time to give them an overview of the campaign setting, as well as give them a chance to create their characters prior to the session.

No prior experience is needed to take part in the D&D session – in fact, virgin adventurers are encouraged to participate.

If you’re interested in participating in the Ronden Marr D&D session, please fill out this form and the GM (Jesse from Literary Escapism) will get in touch with you.
